Water Storage Tanks

No matter if you pump it up from the ground or collect it during a rainstorm, water needs to be kept someplace, either for long-term or immediate usage. Rather than letting it go to waste or using it all immediately, consider water storage tanks for your home. All water storage tanks are characterized by a seamless, impact-resistant, and one-piece design. Norwesco, as the largest manufacturer of rotationally-molded tanks, designs several above- and below-ground models of virgin polyethylene.

Smaller water storage tanks fit inside a home. Able to hold 55 to 275 gallons of water, these containers fit through a door and are seven feet tall. A dark blue color is one of the more unusual features of these water storage tanks, but the choice of shade is for practical reasons. The dark blue color, in fact, keeps out light, which lessens the buildup of algae inside.

Such smaller water tanks are used for long-term and emergency storage, and allow the home to have a backup water supply. For getting water from the tank, all containers are equipped with two spigots.

Not all water storage tanks are made to fit inside the home, however, and above- and below-ground containers hold between 325 and 2,500 gallons. Above ground water tanks, which typically hold between 1,000 and 2,500 gallons, have graduated gallon indicators and slosh-proof lids. Below ground containers are smaller, holding only 325 to 1,700 gallons, and meet FDA specifications for portable water and ANSI/NSF standards. Made from 100-percent virgin polyethylene resin, these poly water storage tanks will not rust or corrode.

Below ground water tanks may need a manhole extension. Attached to the top of the tank, this accessory provides access from the ground level. If you plan to use one, a manhole extension must be added before the tank is backfilled during installation - not after. A set of screws and a gasket allow it to attach to the container, and give it a proper fit.
