Provident Pantry

Provident PantryPrepare your own meals in emergencies or on camping or backpacking trips by using a variety of Provident Pantry foods. With individual items and combo kits available, Provident Pantry offers #10 cans of all basic foods: meats, vegetables, fruits, grains, and legumes. Freeze-dried and dehydrated Provident Pantry foods have a lifespan of 25 years when stored under the right conditions. When preparing food in any of these instances, rehydrate various servings of Provident Pantry foods and combine them to form a meal of your choice.

Emergency preparedness is particularly crucial if you live in an area prone to natural disasters and must be part of your lifestyle regardless of where you live. While part of building up food storage in emergency preparedness includes putting together basic items, Provident Pantry combos have many of these items already freeze dried. Combos of Provident Pantry foods are based on daily caloric needs: 2,000, 1,600, or 1,200 calories. 2,000-calorie kits allow you to exclusively get your dietary needs from Provident Pantry foods alone; 1,200- and 1,600-calorie kits can be combined with your basic grains and legumes.

Storage of any type of freeze-dried foods is particularly important. Too much oxygen, moisture, or light can drastically reduce the lifespan of your food storage. When using Provident Pantry items for your food storage, choose an area with the right conditions: dark, dry, and cool. Do not keep your food storage underground, in a trash can, exposed to light, or in any area near chemicals.

Individual servings of freeze-dried foods add variety to your diet in times of emergency. Nevertheless, a full #10 can is never fully used at once. After the can is opened, the contents are exposed to light and oxygen, but that doesn't mean you need to throw out the leftovers. Instead, for future use, create another airtight environment for your Provident Pantry foods. The leftovers can be frozen for future use or kept in a separate airtight container, or use a commercial resealer to fully seal the #10 can.

Provident Pantry carries more than individual freeze-dried foods for emergencies, however. If you plan to go on a camping or backpacking trip, consider taking Provident Pantry MREs. These meals, ready to eat, are already prepared – little to no cooking is needed. MREs, additionally, need less water than ordinary freeze-dried or dehydrated foods. Choose from MRE packages by Provident Pantry that last three days to a year.
