EarthWave Living offers several options for adding solar panels to your home. This includes various solar panel kits for the home and RVs, as well as system accessories like charge controllers and mounts. A home solar energy system is often divided into two parts – one to replace the electrical grid and one to power any appliances – and kits sold through EarthWave Living are designed to power these two areas.

A residential solar panel system is usually referred to as a grid-tie system, as the power from the sun replaces the electricity from an area’s grid. Mounted to a roof or any other location, these grid-tie solar panels take in the sun’s energy and produce DC energy that goes through an inverter to produce AC electricity. This electricity then flows through an AC power panel to fully power an entire home. If any energy is left over, it goes into the electric grid or can be stored in batteries.

All solar panels operate similarly, but for powering the appliances in your home, an off-grid solar panel system is needed. While these are ideal in areas with no utility grids, those in more urban areas can still use these as a power source, as well. These solar panels are usually larger than a grid-tie system and can be mounted anywhere.

Portable solar panel kits are also offered through our store, and these, generally, are geared toward RVs. A solar panel system added to an RV replaces any battery power or campsite electrical connection and, inside, all appliances and lighting systems can be powered at all types. RV solar panels come in options to power all or part of a vehicle.
