Water Filtration and Purification: Do I need a filter or a purifier?

If you are traveling primarily in the United States or are only using treated water, tap or bottled, then we recommend the Sawyer Biological Water Filter.  This filter removes 99.99999% of Bacteria and 99.9999% of Protozoa and Cysts.

It is important to note that Sawyer Filters do not fail. They will gradually clog up (depending on water quality) but do not allow Bacteria, Protozoa, or Viruses to pass when used properly!

Sawyer biological filters produce cleaner-than-bottled water, no matter the source. As the strongest filtration system, Sawyer filters are gravity-operated and can go through 500 gallons per day. Once water enters a filter, it passes through micro tubes made out of Hollow Fiber Membranes. Each tube, however, has a porous surface, with holes no larger than 0.1 microns. As a result, all organisms are blocked out, and clean water is now available for drinking.
