A disaster can occur at any time - be prepared with the right foods. Building up food storage for emergency preparedness needs to be done over time, but in planning, you should make sure that all food groups are covered. Although grains and honey are the staples for any disaster, proteins, fruits, vegetables, and other carbohydrates should be included with this. But since none of these products have a long shelf life, having dehydrated versions in your pantry lets you keep up a varied diet without worrying about spoilage when a disaster strikes.

Provident Pantry carries many dehydrated foods, all sold in #10 cans. These products have a shelf life of 20 years when kept in dry conditions, and need to be rehydrated before use. Cans of Provident Pantry dehydrated foods range from fruits and vegetables to proteins, dessert and drink mixes, and carbohydrates. Rehydration for most of these foods involves covering a serving – typically three-quarters of a cup – with water and letting it sit. Some, such as fruits or vegetables, will rehydrate in 20 minutes. Others, such as beans, need to be soaking over night to retain their full form. Cooking for Provident Pantry dehydrated foods may also be necessary, and all bread and dessert mixes will require a heat source for this.

When maintaining a varied diet in a time of disaster, use any of these Provident Pantry dehydrated foods to prepare a meal. Combine various vegetables, carbohydrates, and proteins together to make dinner or lunch with limited resources.
